Pears and walnuts – again? Yes again. Don’t judge!
First of all because pears and walnuts are always a great combo, so there is nothing
to judge about it. Also, did I mention that I am currently moving, starting a
new job and planning our wedding? No? Because I totally do. And it’s a lot
of stuff to work on, I can tell ya. So a simple ole pie with things I found in
my pantry is all I can master these days. And really – when was a pie ever not great?
Especially when filled with sweet pears and caramelized walnuts.

Whole Peach Pies
I can feel it. There is change in the air. I can feel
it coming. And it better come soon.
If you are like me and you are desperately waiting for a break in the daily routine, sit and make some whole peach pies. They will help with the waiting part. I promise. Cheers to unexpected news an adventures coming our way!

Mini Cherry Pies
The
Holidays are over, the workaday life is officially back in business. I am not
so sure if am taking it too well. However the New Year will have its share of
challenges and changes and I plan to greet them with open arms!
Just, until I do that, can I keep holding on to the old for a little longer? And maybe sleep in a little? And have some cherry pie instead of a full grown lunch? Good, I appreciate that ya’ll agree to that, so we can move on to these pies!
I felt the urgent need to make mini pies while reading one of my new favorite cookbooks – totally the world’s greatest Christmas present from the world’s greatest boy – from the author of the wonderful and most charming blog What Katie ate.
Now, let me tell you, boy, does that woman know how to make food look yummy! I actually wanna eat her meals right off the book pages! And she has a great tip on how to blind bake mini pies! Just you wait and see!

Vicki's Lemon Pie
When I was still in school and living at home with my parents, my sister and me went on exchange abroad and our family also welcomed a lot of exchange students into our home. This was definitely one of my most enriching and exciting experiences, which, on a side note, obviously also opened my eyes to loads of new recipes and different styles of baking and cooking. So these Lemon Meringue Pies made their way to me through a lovely lady, Vicki, from Australia, with whom we had the pleasure of living for a while.
This weekend I searched for a special thing to make for girls night with three darlings that I got to know in the new city, where I live for almost half a year now. Well, and these pies, made in individual dishes, for less bickering over who gets the last piece, were just the perfect thing to gorge on with a good Cosmopolitan in your hand. By the way, crushed ice made by hammering on a block of ice with a rolling pin – totally works. So thank you Vicki, for sharing this recipe with me, and thank you to the three girls that made Friday night so much fun!
Apple season
I know apple season is almost over, but when it is in full swing, I am going apple crazy. My parents have an apple tree in the backyard and I swear they are the best apples you will ever eat (especially when you climb up to get the reddest and biggest ones high up)! I put them in everything I cook or bake, from savory to sweet. Apples are definitely the best fruit to pair with cake. Juicy and tangy flavors combined in a crumble or with cream – apple heaven!
In Germany when it is getting colder roasted apples are a big thing. Stuffed with nuts, raisins and marzipan, roasted in the oven and eaten with good vanilla custard, preferably at a fireplace. So homy! Well, here is how you put this feeling into a cake.
