I have a promise to make. I promise that I will learn
how to photograph food. Because I have in no way stopped baking. In fact only
this week I made batches and batches of snickerdoodles and lemon and poppy seed
cookies. But I am a total disaster when it comes to cameras. In fact I don’t
even own one and my camera phone doesn’t work. And since my dearest
photographer, who just also happens to be my dearest husband-to-be, can
unfortunately not be with me and my food during the week, we have to make due
on the weekends. But I will be better. I will get a camera and start working on
it. Also, did I mention that the photographer kept our cat and I got an
adorable puppy from the shelter? Just on a side note. Our family-to-be is
already growing. All this has nothing to do with this great soda-bread. Which
is amazingly delicious and not photographed by me or the dog.

Paul's sourdough bread
Paul
is our upstairs neighbor. He seems like a very nice fella. That would not
exactly be special, if it wasn’t the case that he has something that I wanted
for ages. My dear neighbor Paul has sourdough. Real and matured sourdough. The
kind that makes all the difference to a normal all yeast bread. And after
lending him kitchen equipment, Paul was nice enough to present me with a small
jar of his sourdough and a recipe. And what a deal that was! Our morning
sandwiches have increased from good homemade bread to
you-could-not-get-a-better-loaf-in-your-bakery bread! Score! Thanks for
granting me such rewarding neighbors! Great start into an exciting full of
travels week!
Seasonal bread
In
Germany Christmas calendars are a really popular thing. They make the 24 days
waiting for Christmas easier with little presents or chocolate, its
time-consuming work to make these things but a delight to open a little
surprise every day. So naturally, I love it! Especially when your boyfriend gives
you a coupon in one of the little packages for making you seasonal bread with cranberries,
walnuts and rosemary for breakfast! So thank you boyfriend and thank you JamieOliver for the lovely recipe!
And here is a cozy playlist to accompany you seasonal bread baking!

Banana Bread
Alright,
alright. Here is a little break from Christmas charoling and decorating the
house with twinkly lights. Get out the bourbon and the mushy bananas you have
hanging around the house, cause all you eat right now are tangerines. Just a
plain non-sparkly loaf cake will do. Breath in, breath out. See, no presents or
tree or decoration to worry about. Bust out a big pot of coffee and enjoy the
quiet. And maybe put on the twinkly lights.Simple Bread
Lately I have become much into the art of
making bread. Partly because of my mother, who bakes her own bread every second
day or so, including grinding different kinds of flour herself (no, worries,
one day I may feature her bread, but for now let’s stick to the easy kind). The
other reason would be the beautiful book 52 loaves: A half-baked adventure written by William Alexander. As the title
suggests, it’s a book all about bread making. Yep, that is the kind of thing I
read. But I swear, it really is fascinating – stuffed with the all the secrets
and history of bread making, all in one man’s quest to find the perfect bread
(and finally his way back to faith). A really good read! Here is one of my
attempts to bake decent bread. I guess many versions will follow.
